Tom Nelson
Tom’s
interest in music began at a very young age of 8 when, during a church skit, he
dressed up as a caveman for a Flintstone’s version of the Beatles having
fashioned a guitar out of cardboard. He became enamored with electric guitars
and dreamed of owning a real thing one day. A few years later guitar lessons
gave way to his first rock band with an emphasis on the music of The Who. Later
his high school jazz band recruited him to shift to bass guitar. He loved the
low thunderous tones he could produce and bass guitar became his primary
instrument. Personal and professional priorities caused him to set aside his
bass playing for a number of years until a “wild preacher man” saw his upright
bass in the corner of his home and persuaded him to take up playing bass again.
He’s very happy to be playing again with Sunny and is very excited and inspired
to be playing with such a talented group of people in Spirit’s Wind.
Tom’s day job is creative as well. Employed as an artist by Hallmark Cards
for 17 years, Tom is now a freelance visual artist. In the fall he will once
again be an adjunct professor teaching art at William Jewell College in Liberty,
